Where have I been? It's been AGES since I connected with you and for that I do apologise and hope that the absence has made the heart grow fonder (cheeky smile).
I am sorry but I have to say the last three weeks have been fantastic as I went on a trip to England and to Italy! Can I convince you it was half pleasure but half work as I had to explore all things bakery and sweet? It is my duty to report on my findings and eating delicious cakes and gelato is part of that duty.
The ingredients are fresh and light - no mountain of five different hard cheeses or a multitude of toppings, and somehow you can devour one of these huge pizzas but not feel sluggishly full. You are full, trust me, but you don't feel like you have swallowed a brick.
Coffee and pastries are something the Italians do very well. I saw so many wonderful treats displayed in windows, huge pieces of biscotti and meringues, croissants and cakes and mounds of things I don't even know what they are. Don't worry, I did my best in trying what ever I could every day. The local specialities were Delizie al Limone (Lemon Delights) which is a dome shaped lemon cake brushed with a Limoncello syrup and covered in a lemon and cream glaze, the centre is filled with a lemon cream. A Torta Caprese (Capri Cake) which is a decadent chocolate cake made with ground almonds rather than flour and a Torta Ricotta e Pere, a hazelnut cake with sweetened ricotta and pear filling.
